Sutta Kathirikkai Gothsu/ Burnt Brinjal Gothsu
I still remember those childhood days when my grandma used to cook some traditional dishes in Viragu aduppu using charcoal and woods. I use to admire the way she cooks, taking so much efforts to manage the fumes, wiping the tears and much more. But the flavour of the food is certainly to die for…This recipe "Sutta Kathirikkai Gothsu/ Burnt Brinjal Gothsu" is one of those which is my favourite..but I couldn’t bring the same traditional taste which gets cooked in charcoal. Here I used gas stove to roast the eggplant, but you can either use an oven or fry the brinjals if you like.
- 1 Eggplant
- 2 Onions
- 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
- 2 Tomatoes
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tsp Chilly powder
- 1/4 cup Tamarind juice
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- Coriander leaves
Roast eggplant on stove till the outer layer peels off. Wash in water and completely peel off the skin. Mash it nicely using a fork.
In a kadai heat oil and splutter mustard seeds.Add onions and little salt. Saute till it turns brown. Add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell goes.
Add tomatoes and salt. Cook till soft.
Add turmeric powder and chilly powder. Cook for 2 mins.
Now add the mashed brinjal, coriander leaves and mix well. Add tamarind juice and salt. Let it simmer.
Sutta Kathirikka Gothsu is ready.
