Puli Sevai Recipe/ Tamarind Sevai Recipe

Puli Sevai Recipe/ Tamarind Sevai Recipe

Sevai is nothing but Indian rice noodles. This preparation is similiar simple puliyogare where the sevai is cooked in Tamarind. This dish will be perfect for breakfast. You can serve it with coconut chutney or peanut chutney.  Learn how to make this tasty Puli Sevai with stepwise pics.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Semiya/ vermicelli
  • 2 tbsp Gingelly oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp Urad dal
  • 2 tsp Channa Dal
  • 10 Cashews
  • 2 Red chillies
  • Curry leaves
  • 1.5 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • Salt
  • 1/8 tsp Turmeric powder
  • tamarind a small lemon size
  • 1 tsp ghee for frying cashews

Recipe Notes

Keep all the ingredients ready. Heat ghee in a kadai and roast cashews till it becomes golden brown. Remove it separately.

 

Roast the semiya for 2 mins and remove it separately.

Heat oil in the same kadai and splutter mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal. Add red chillies and curry leaves.

Add tamarind extract (nearly 1/2 cup), 3.5 cups of water, salt, chilly powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder. Let it boil for 2 mins.

Now add the roasted semiya and cover and cook till it is done.

Garnish with roasted cashews and Serve hot.
