Paruppu Urundai Kuzhambu
This is a very tasty spicy and tangy coconut based Kuzhambu made with Channa dal. Since the lentil balls are steamed it is a very healthy option. It tastes delicious with steamed rice.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Channa dal
- 3 big Onions
- 2 big Tomatoes
- 10 Garlic cloves
- 1 piece Ginger
- 2 tsp Chilly powder
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt
- Curry leaves
- A big lemon size tamarind soaked in warm water
- 1/4 cup Coconut grinded to paste
- Coriander leaves
- 1 pinch Asafoetida
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 2 tsp Fennel seeds
- 1 tbsp Urad dal

Chop all the veggies finely.
Soak Chana dal in water for 2 hours. Drain the water and grind it coarsely alongwith 1 tsp Fennel seeds, 1/2 tsp garlic , 1/2 tsp chilli powder, salt.
Add onions, little garlic, curry leaves to this and combine well. Make small balls and steam it in a idly cooker for 15 mins or till it is done.
In a kadai heat oil, splutter mustard seeds, fennel seeds, urad dal. Add onions, garlic and curry leaves. Add little salt and saute for 2 mins.
Add tomatoes, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt. Cook till it turns soft.
Now add the tamarind water and mix well. Let it boil.
Add the grinder coconut paste. Mix well. Add coriander leaves and steamed vadas. Let it boil for 2 mins. Check for salt.
