Nanjil Naatu Meen Kuzhambu/ Nanjil Fish Curry

- 1/2 kg Sardine Fish/ Mathi/ Chala fish or any fish of your choice
- 15 Shallots
- 5 Red chillies
- 1 tsp Fennel seeds
- 1 tsp Peppercorns
- 3 Green chillies
- 1/2 cup Coconut
- 1 tbsp Coriander powder
- 6-8 pieces Drumstick
- Tamarind a small lemon size
- 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds
- Curry leaves
- 2 tsp Coconut oil
In a kadai pour 1 tsp oil and add shallots, red chillies, fennel, green chillies and peppercorns. Saute for 2 mins till nice aroma comes.
Now add coconut and saute till it becomes light golden brown. Add coriander powder and switch off flame. Mix well.
Let it cool. Add tamarind and sufficient water. Grind it to paste.
In a kadai heat remaining oil, add fenugreek and drumstick. Add curry leaves and cook for 3-4 mins.
Take the cleaned fish, add this drumstick and the grinded paste. Add sufficient salt and water. Let it boil nicely till the fish is cooked.
This fish curry tastes yum with steamed rice.
