Karutha Kuzhambu/ Marundhu Kuzhambu- Post Pregnancy Recipe
This is a very tasty and healthy fish curry usually prepared for lactating mothers. You can use any fish of your choice to this marundhu Kuzhambu. If you are a vegetarian you can add garlic instead of fish.
- 1/2 kg Fish I used sardine/ Mathi fish
- 1/4 tsp Hing
- 20 cloves Garlic
- Tamarind extract from a lemon size tamarind
- 2 tbsp Gingelly oil
For the masala
- 1/3 cup Coconut
- 1 tbsp Ajwain
- 2 tsp Pepper
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 piece Dry ginger
- 6 Shallots
- Curry leaves
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 12 cloves Garlic with skin
Keep all the ingredients ready.
Heat a kadai and dry roast all the given ingredients for masala. Roast till it turns dark brown. Now switch off the flame and then add coriander powder, chilly powder and turmeric powder. Let it cool and grind it to a paste.
In a clay pot take this paste, along with tamarind extract, salt, fish, hing adding sufficient water.
Ina separate kadai heat oil and add garlic. Let it cook till it turns soft. Atlas add curry leaves. Add this to the fish curry and let it boil for 5 mins.
Serve it with rice and paruppu thogayal.
