Chemmeen Biriyani/ Prawns Biriyani Recipe/ How to make Prawns Biriyani or Shrimp Biriyani
This is a traditional Kerala dish where the Prawns/ Chemmeen are cooked in coconut milk and other masalas. Unlike Chicken or Mutton Biriyani, this Prawns Biriyani takes really less time to cook. I have cooked it using pressure cooker , but if you wish you can try the same using Dum also. This biriyani tastes very good and will surely be a treat for all those biriyani lovers. - 3 cups Basmati Rice wash and soak for 30 mins
- 1 kg Prawns
- 6 Onions sliced
- 3 small Tomatoes
- 12 Garlic
- 1 inch Ginger
- 6 Green chillies
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tsp Chilli powder
- Mint leaves a handful
- Coriander leaves a handful
- 2 piece Cinnamon
- 8 cloves
- 8 Cardamon
- 6 cups Coconut milk
- 3 tbsp Coconut Oil
Clean prawns, put salt, turmeric powder and chilli powder.Mix well and let it marinate.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cinnamon, cloves and cardamon. Add onions and little salt. Saute till it turns nice golden brown. Add green chilly and saute for 2 mins.
Grind ginger and garlic, add the paste to it. Saute till the raw smell goes.
Add tomatoes, mint and coriander leaves.
Add the marinated prawns and cook for 2-3 mins.
Add the soaked rice and mix well. Add coconut milk and sufficient salt. Mix well. Let it cook for upto 1 whistle. Transfer the rice to a large pan once the pressure is down.
Chemmeen Biriyani/ Prawns Biriyani is ready.
