Bisi Bele bath
Bisi Bele bath is a spicy rice-based dish with origins in the state of Karnataka. This tastes yum when served hot with ghee, boondi raita and fryums.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice
- 1/2 cup Toor dal
- 10 Shallots
- 1 big Tomato
- 2 cups Veggies chopped
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- Tamarind extract (a lemon size)
- 3 tbsp Bisibelebath powder
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 2 tsp Jaggery
- Salt
To temper
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 2 pinch Asafoetida
- 2 Dry red chilllies
- curry leaves
- 1/4 Peanuts
Recipe Notes
In a pressure cooker take washed rice and dal along with 3 cups water. Cook for upto 4 whistles.
Cut and keep all veggies ready.
In a kadai heat oil and add the shallots and veggies. Add sufficient salt and cook.
Add turmeric powder and cook till the vegetables are half cooked. Now add the tamarind extract and cook for 3 more mins.
Add cooked rice, dal, salt and sufficient water. Add bisibelebath powder and tomatoes. Cook for 5 mins.
Now add jaggery and mix well. Let it cook in low flame.
In a separate pan melt ghee and add the tempering ingredients. Add this to the rice. Do no let it thicken. It should be of pouring consistency.
Mix well and serve.
