Bisibelebath is a very popular dish made in Karnataka. This version of bisibelebath ie. Avalakki bisibelebath is made out of flattened rice or poha and it is most commonly made for breakfast.
- 2 cups Poha
- 3/4 cup Toor dal
- 2 cups Vegetables (carrot, beans, potato)
- 3 tbsp Peanuts
- 2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 10 Shallots sliced
- 2 small Tomatoes chopped
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 3 tbsp bisibelebath powder
- 1 tsp Jaggery
- 2 tsp Tamarind paste
- Coriander leaves To garnish
- 2 tbsp Oil/ ghee
- 2 tbsp Dry coconut
Add sufficient water and pressure cook dal for upto 3 whistles. Let the pressure come down. Then add the vegetables and cook for 2 more whistles.
Wash poha and drain the water.
In a kadai heat oil, splutter mustard seeds. Add peanuts and roast.
Add chopped onions and fry. Add tomatoes and cook till it becomes soft.
Add salt, turmeric powder and bisibelebath powder. Cook till the masala smell goes.
Now add the cooked dal, veggies, tamarind and jaggery. Add sufficient salt. Mix well. Add water if required.
Add poha and dry coconut. Cook for 2 mins. Do not make it too thick. It should have a flowing consistency.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
