Arisi Kozhukattai Recipe/ How to make Arisi Kozhukattai
I was very hungry after returning from my college that evening. I could smell something good from kitchen. I went running and asked grandma what is she cooking. When I heard kozhukatai.. I was like 'NO..not again..' Since I was not a fan of that regular breakfast kozhukattai where the dumplings made of rice flour are directly cooked in water (not steaming). We prepare it almost every weekend it was not very exciting for me then. But then she replied ' It is not that regular one..just try it..I hope you may like it'. And obviously anything that grandmas cook will be delicious. I tried and ' Ya it is very soft...' I was amused..' but how did u prepare it??' And then she explained this recipe. Since then I had this very often and never got bored. I am sure you are also gonna love it.

- 1 cup Rice
- 1/2 cup Coconut
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp Urad Dal
- 3 Red chilly I have used only the seeds
Soak rice for 3-4 hours. Add coconut and grind it to a paste. (The normal cooking rice is used for this dish. Make sure you grind the rice to a fine paste. I used mixie to grind it. You can grind it using grinder for better result. Do not add water at first. Keep adding it eventually)
In a kadai heat oil and splutter mustard seeds, urad dal and chilly (seeds). Add 2 cups of water and sufficient salt. Let it come to boil.
Now add the rice paste and reduce the flame to medium. Keep stirring till the mixture becomes thick. ( It may become difficult to mix after a stage. So make sure you do not burn it. Keep at low flame to make it easier) Pour 1 tsp oil and mix well. Let it cool.
Now shape it into small balls and steam it using an idly cooker.Cook for nearly 10 mins.
